The Countess of Brecknock Hospice is a specialist palliative care unit attached to Andover War Memorial Hospital. The hospice multi-disciplinary team consists of doctors, nurses, therapists, counsellors and support staff, who work to help people live as well as possible until they die.

The hospice provides specialist care for people with any life-limiting illness through:

  • An inpatient unit
  • A hospice at home service
  • A day hospice service
  • Outpatient clinics
  • Working in close partnership with Hampshire Hospitals Specialist palliative care service community and hospital teams, as well as community care teams and GPs.

Supported by the Hampshire Hospitals Palliative Care team, community nurses and a dedicated team of volunteers, our first-class nursing and continuing care team have one simple goal — to bring peace, comfort and dignity to every patient they see.

The Hospice currently has a six-bedded inpatient unit. We provide specialist end of life care in an environment that enhances well-being, privacy and caring. We can also provide a short stay facility to regulate symptoms and pain control, with patients returning home for many months of improved quality of life – possibly before readmission for terminal care. Respite care is also available to provide a welcome rest for relatives who normally care for patients at home.

We also provide thriving Day Care facilities, a Hospice at Home Service, Home Care, Line Care and consultants’ clinics.

Our dedicated multi-disciplinary teamwork to ensure that patients are able to live as full a life as possible within the limitations of their illness. Staff also provide sympathetic support and care to family and friends.
