When someone is ill it’s not just the patient who is affected. Life can be turned upside down for the rest of the family and for friends and carers.

Visiting your family and friends at the Countess of Brecknock Hospice is very flexible. You may need to visit at any time as we don’t have set visiting hours. There are no age restrictions and babies, children and pets are welcome.

Here you can find out some important information to help you plan your visit.
Our reception is staffed by volunteers. Reception is normally open from 9am – 5pm on weekdays. If you are visiting the hospice at these times, please go to reception on arrival.

When reception is closed, please use the intercom at the main door. The hospice staff will then open the door for you. Make your way through the door and then turn left, through the double doors and up the stairs to the ward.

Please be aware that staff may be busy with patients and may not respond straight away. They will answer as soon as they can. We appreciate your patience.

Some important points to consider:

  • Please bear in mind that receiving too many visitors, for too long, may exhaust your loved ones. Remember they may need to rest.
  • Sometimes we may have to limit the number of visitors for clinical reasons.
  • Children must be supervised at all times.
  • Pets may also visit but you should talk to one of the staff about this first.

Staff

You will know the name of the nurse who is responsible for your or your relative’s care each day. The senior nurses will be your point of contact for any questions you have or information you want.

Your named nurse will change as staff go on and off duty but you will be informed of this change and the information will be displayed.

Parking

Each room has a parking permit available. This enables you to park in the numbered bay for the room free of charge. Please return the permit to the room when you leave for the next visitors.

Family Room

We have a separate family room and lounge area, where you are welcome to relax and help yourself to refreshments. We have a small balcony where, weather permitting, you can also sit with your family and friends.

WiFi Access

There is free Wi-Fi provision throughout the Hospice. The WiFi ID is NHS Wi-Fi
In order to log on you will need to register and create an account. Go on to service.thecloud.net you will be automatically logged on when you connect and will see the trust’s personalised landing page.

Accessibility

  • Accessible toilets are throughout the Hospice.
  • There is a lift to the ward.

If you have any other special access needs, please tell our staff who will be very happy to assist you.

Infection Control

Our patients can easily catch infections. Please help to avoid this by using the hand gel provided at the entrance to the hospice.

Smoking

The hospice and its grounds are a non-smoking environment
